Only one you

So it’s that time of the year again (even though here in the South it starts later than usual and right at this moment it is raining): boots, scarves, chilly nights, hot cocoa, and frozen windshields with snowflake design. Out of the millions and millions and millions of snowflakes that fall each year, it is well known that not one of them is identical to another; each is unique, much like the human fingertip. And to think that someone planned it and designed it before the first snowflake ever came down. How much detail, how much work, how much beauty is found in just one snowflake. Their uniqueness brings glory to their creator because that is how they were created to be. Comparison has no place because each is beautiful in its own way.

Now, I might be the only one fascinated with snowflakes here, but there is a great wonder and truth hidden behind it all. God, in His wisdom and strength, did not think it was too much to make each snowflake unique, despite the fact that all of them melt as soon as they touch the earth (or any other object for that matter) or, in some parts of the country, connect with others to make up snow. If so much beauty and detail is put into something that lasts such a short time, how much more beauty and detail do you think God put into us, His created beings, made after His own image?

So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. – Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  – Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

My beloved reader, God put work into you. A lot of work. A lot of detail and a whole lot of beauty that makes you you. You are actually His masterpiece, an authentic one for that matter. And like all the great artists, He first thought of you before He made you. You were on His mind and in His heart. Now, you will have your critics and you will have your fans but you weren’t meant to please any of them. You were created to please just one. The one who Created you.

In the meantime, I’m looking up for some snowflakes …

  2. Lilies of the field, birds of the air, AND us. David asked, “What is man that He is mindful of us?” The answer is equally amazing- His loved ones.
